OYL is back in New York after a hugely successful summer residency in northern Greece and we cannot wait to see you and share our latest discoveries as we enter our 2011/2012 season!
We spent the summer months refining our programming, training, rehearsing, further developing our commissioning initiative, and working with the incredible students in our 2011 Apprentice Program.
"I never expected to leave the OYL Apprentice program feeling so overwhelmed with personal and artistic growth. OYL has helped me re-believe in myself and what I love to do. It has been a long a time since I performed that I truly felt like I was making a difference in people's lives." – Amy Lynne Berger, NYU

Fuddy Meers is a deliciously dark comedy about an amnesiac named Claire, who is about to experience a day unlike any she’s ever lived (not that she can remember them!).
One of the many scripts we read during our Papingo residency this summer, Fuddy Meers appealed to all of our theatrical sensibilities: strong ensemble nature, a little dark and twisted, a dash of warped realism, and funny as hell. The script doesn’t exactly fit with the company’s mission (making new productions inspired by ancient myths)…but we had so much fun with the piece that we thought – why not use it to showcase our ensemble?
We are cooking up two amazing projects for Spring 2011 but why wait so long to see the OYL ensemble at work? Come on out! It is free and there will be refreshments!
Come and see:
Sarah-Jane Casey as Claire: “a generally sunny woman with amnesia”
Bjorn Dupaty as Richard: “a chatty, friendly, sometimes nervous, man”
Danny Bernardy as Kenny: “a troubled teen”
Nick Flint as Limping Man: “a lisping, limping, half-blind, half-deaf man with secrets”
Sameerah Luqmaan-Harrisas Gertie: “a clear-headed lady who's had a stroke and can't speak properly”
Babis Gousias as Millet:“an odd man with a puppet”
AND
Featuring a special guest appearance from:
Gioia Marchese of Company XIV as Heidi: “a tough woman in uniform”

For OYL, 2011 will be a year of international collaborations. We have commissioned Montenegrin playwright Sladjana Vujovic to create a script inspired by the epic story of Gilgamesh. From Ancient Sumeria to New York, by way of the Balkans, this enticing take on Gilgamesh will premiere March 11 through April 2, 2011.
We have commissioned acclaimed Australian playwright Daniel Keene to create a new work inspired by the myth of Thyestes. We’ve never looked forward to a bloody cannibalistic feast more. This sure-to-be-thrilling play, tentatively entitled The Murder Room, will run at Teatro Circulo from June 3, 2011 and run until June 25, 2011.
